OpenTrunk technology has the following features:
❒ Switch supports frame encapsulation:
• Identifies frame VLAN via tag
• Associates frame priority
❒ Switch supports multiple tagging formats:
• IEEE pre-standard format based on 802.1Q draft document
• A major vendor’s multi-layer tagging scheme
• 3Com® VLAN Tag and PACE priority signalling
❒ Switch supports translation to and from any format. A packet can enter the switch
with a 3Com SuperStack II VLAN tag and exit the switch as a multi-layer tagged
packet (Figure 2-3).
